Institute for Information Systems and Society
Fulltime, 40 hours/week
Starting April 01, 2024, and ending after 6 years

Research and teaching at the Institute for IS & Society focuses on human-centric, social, wellbeing-oriented, value-based information systems. We seek to contribute to more ethical IT innovation and sustainable IT design methods, especially with a view to AI. We study not only technology but also the psychological and philosophical dimensions of human – machine co-evolution. What to expect
  • Develop a strong international research reputation in value-based, ethical IS by publishing in high-quality outlets in line with the Department’s list of leading international journals and pursue a Habilitation (potentially based on these publications)
  • Active involvement in the international academic community
  • Support and guide PhD students
  • Teach 4 weekly credit hours per semester
  • Independently supervise Bachelors and (co-)supervision Masters theses
  • Contribute to the further development of study programs and courses
  • Demonstrate an active commitment to academic self-governance and the administration of the Institute
  • If you want, engage in Third Mission activities
  • If you require it, acquire third-party research funds
What you have to offer
  • A completed PhD degree (or equivalent) focused on human-centric information system
  • High-quality research publications in any or several of the following areas: Human computer interaction, behavioral IS research, ethical computing (from either a technical or philosophical perspective), values in design, value-based engineering, or a related scientific area where cross-disciplinary research on information systems, their design and/or their societal implications come into play.
  • Knowledge in both information systems and the humanities, which means that you can either be a computer scientist, information systems scholar or psychologist.
  • Expertise in using quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, ideally both.
  • Passion for research, but at the same time a willingness to show a strong local presence and engagement with WU and the Institute’s mission, governance and students.
  • Some Teaching experience
  • English fluency
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
