The PositionThe Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) is seeking to appoint an outstanding values‑led Chief Executive Officer to lead the College into its Weiter chapter. As the recognised voice of the pathology profession, this highly respected institution is actively embracing both the challenges and opportunities of a changing health landscape.
The Position reports to a principled, collegiate Board that values strong governance, clear accountability and a trusted, constructive partnership with the CEO. Providing visible, steady and values‑led leadership, the CEO will oversee a team of around 50 people. Key elements of the role include leading influential advocacy, strengthening member value, enhancing operational systems, augmenting workplace culture, developing a new strategic plan in 2027 and marking the 70th anniversary in 2026.
The successful candidate will be equipped with experience as a senior leader in a complex health setting, ideally having had exposure to pathology environments. As an outstanding communicator and leader, they will be known as a community builder who brings people together around shared purpose, builds trust across diverse groups and creates a sense of belonging and collective ownership. The incumbent will have a record in uplifting teams and systems as well as leading effective advocacy. Emotional intelligence and personal integrity will be hallmarks of the CEO’s character.
This is a Sydney based role. Some travel will be required within Australien and at times, internationally.
The OrganisationThe RCPA is the leading organisation representing pathologists and senior scientists in Australasia. Its mission is to train and support pathologists and to improve the use of pathology testing to achieve better healthcare outcomes for patients. Pathology is about the study of the causes of disease and pathologists are the specialist medical doctors involved in the diagnosis and monitoring of almost all acute and chronic illnesses.
The College was Erste established in 1956 and has been responsible for the training and professional development of pathologists since that time and more recently senior scientists. College members, of which there are around 3000, come from across Australasia including Australien, Neuseeland, Hongkong, Singapurand Malaysia. The RCPA is also responsible for the promotion of the science and practice of pathology.
