The Department of Health provides strategic leadership for Queensland's public health system, ensuring services are designed and delivered to meet the needs of communities across the state. Within this context, the System Policy and Planning Division leads the policy and service planning that guides how the health system evolves to meet future demand.
An opportunity now exists for an experienced executive to lead the System Planning Branch, providing strategic leadership for statewide health service planning and clinical service strategy. Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, this role will shape how health services are planned and delivered across Queensland.
As Executive Director, you will lead the design and implementation of statewide service planning strategies and initiatives, working closely with Hospital and Health Services, clinicians, researchers and government partners. You will play a pivotal role in identifying emerging service trends, analysing future demand for healthcare services and guiding system-wide responses that ensure Queensland's health system continues to evolve in line with community need.
This role requires a highly strategic and collaborative leader who can operate with influence across complex stakeholder environments. You will provide high-level advice to senior executives and government, navigate politically sensitive issues and bring together diverse partners to co-design innovative models of care. At the same time, you will build planning capability across the health system, supporting Hospital and Health Services to align local planning with statewide priorities and ensuring an integrated approach to health service delivery.
The successful candidate will be a credible and trusted leader who can stand alongside stakeholders across the health system, listen carefully and engage constructively on complex issues. While technically strong in service planning and system strategy, you will bring an open and curious mindset, seeking to understand diverse perspectives and using that insight to shape practical and forward-looking solutions. You will be able to adapt your communication to different audiences - from clinicians and health service leaders to senior executives and government - building confidence through clarity, authenticity and sound judgement. This role requires agility and adaptability in a dynamic environment, along with the leadership capability to guide and elevate a team through change, lifting their thinking and supporting them to operate at a strategic and system-focused level.
