About the Role

We have the opportunity for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join a dynamic and progressive team as a Senior Neurological and Rehabiliation Occupational Therapist on our Stroke and Rehab ward at Whanganui Hospital.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Occupational Therapist to work in our Occupational Therapy team, this role is predominantly inpatient based on ATR (stroke/rehab), with input into post discharge community follow-up as appropriate. This role is ideal for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a keen interest in Neurological conditions and rehabilitation.

We have a great team of Occupational Therapists with a wide variety of experience and skills. This job requires working closely with the other Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Therapy Assistants, as well as being a part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. Excellent time management, leadership, adaptability and communication skills are essential for this role.

This role is a Senior position and therefore will be placed on the Designated Senior Salary steps as per the latest collective agreement.

This role will report to the Clinical Manager Occupational Therapy

Our team work closely together to deliver the best outcome for the people in our community. This job requires working closely with other Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Therapy Assistants, as well as being a part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. Excellent time management, adaptability and communication skills are essential for this role.

About you

Were looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist whos ready to bring their skills, compassion, and teamwork to a role that truly makes a difference. To thrive in this position, our ideal candidate will have:

  • You must be a qualified Occupational Therapist and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate

  • Have experience or demonstrate potential for working in a hospital/DHB setting

  • Ideally have 3-5 years experience working as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Hold the legal right to work in New Zealand

  • Physically fit and able to lift (as per patient handling guidelines)

  • Motivated to maintain high level of knowledge and skill

  • Hold a Full New Zealand Drivers License

  • Enjoy working alongside other MDT members with a transdisciplinary team approach.

  • Able to build strong relationships with the clients and whanau and community networks.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills.

  • Good communicator, written and oral.

  • Motivated to maintain high level of knowledge and skill

  • Able to supervise students and junior rotational Occupational Therapists

  • Cultural sensitivity
