Work Location Home-based, with travel to field sites in Southeast Asia (possibly Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, amongst others.) Expected duration 24 February - 31 December 2025 Duties and Responsibilities The UNODC Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE) aims to link existing regional efforts against wildlife and forest crime, crimes in the fisheries sector, illegal mining and trafficking in precious metals and waste into efforts within the global system, enhancing capacity building and wildlife and other environmental law enforcement networks at regional and sub-regional levels. The consultants work will improve knowledge wildlife trafficking trends with a specific focus on the gender dynamics of the illegal wildlife trade in Southeast Asia. This work falls under a new partnership between UNODC and the Government of Canada on exploring the role that women can play in both facilitating and preventing wildlife crime. The countries of focus for the project are to be determined following the initial literature/materials review, with possibilities including Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, amongst others. Duties and Responsibilities include: • Undertake a desk review on illegal wildlife trade trends in Southeast Asia with a focus on gender dynamics to form the foundation of the structure and methodology for the field assessment • Develop appropriate structure/methodology and instruments/data collection tools for the fieldwork to be conducted by the in-country consultants. • Train and guide the field consultants in their gathering and analysis of field data to answer the research questions, both virtually and on the ground. • Work with the field consultants to implement these instruments and tools troubleshoot any research issues in the field. • Support and finalize the data analysis of the field data collected by the field consultants. • Consolidate the final data-based reports produced by the field consultants into a final report of the findings of the field work, and place the findings into the broader context of the gender and wildlife trafficking literature. The final version of the report should be in an accessible, easy-to read format that can be given as is to a donor as a baseline study of womens involvement in IWT in Southeast Asia Qualifications/special skills An advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in a sociology, geography, criminology or related social science or conservation-related discipline is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • A minimum of 15 years of relevant progressively responsible work experience on environmental issues, the illegal wildlife trade, and/or climate change, including quantitative and qualitative research, is required. • Extensive knowledge of gender issues and their interplay with wildlife conservation and climate change is required. • Work experience doing research in developing countries is required. • Experience doing field work or working with countries in the Asia-Pacific region is desirable. • Experience in writing analytical reports for publication is highly desirable. Languages

• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
